James Michael Sawyer hails from South Florida but has been a resident of Gainesville off and on since the 1970’s when he moved here to attend the University of Florida (UF) for his Bachelor’s Degree. Mike began a martial arts career as a teenager in Miami which continued while he attended UF and went on to become one of the world’s foremost promoters and authorities on sport martial arts. He is the co-founder of many prestige martial art associations including the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) and the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) as well as an on-air expert analyst for ESPN and other sports channels.

In the early 1990’s Mike decided to pursue a career in law and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Frederic G. Levins College of Law in 1992. He joined the firm in 1994 and is a Senior Attorney and Managing Partner.

His primary practice area is Criminal Defense with an emphasis on Felony, Misdemeanor and Traffic as well as Business Litigation.

When his free time is not taken by his martial arts activities, Mike can usually be found with his wife and three children or enjoying Florida Gator sporting events.
